Fall ’23 Journalism

Fall+23+Journalism

This year’s journalism group is much larger than groups in previous years. This has allowed students to become more creative with their weekly projects on The Scarlet Ink. There have been a couple groups doing podcasts. Rachel Bowers, Claire Weber, Madison Reid, and Aubrey Sandberg have a weekly podcast called No Gimmick where they discuss a new topic each week ranging from Would you Rather to research topics to interviews. Click here to check out their most recent episode! Killian Graff, Alli Taets, and Haylee Downing have a podcast called BBG, Two Brunettes and a Ginger, where they discuss a fun, new topic each week. Here is a link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAQEmtpKUqA) to their most recent episode, Alli’s Top 10 Nature Events. Senior Cheerleaders, Olivia Thomsen, Braylin Crose, and Delaney Taets, have a series of short form videos where they ask students random questions. Here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGGVHFlTr0s) is a link to their most recent video where they interview students about what they would do if they were the last person on Earth. Avary Green and Evan Martin also do short form videos where they have interviewed OHS staff and athletes. Here (https://www.youtube.com/@avarygreen/videos)  is a link to their most recent episode where they interview the volleyball players. The rest of the students in Journalism write news stories or reviews, right here, on The Scarlet Ink!

As we are getting further into the school, the class is starting to brainstorm ideas for one of their biggest projects, the yearbook! This year the theme of the yearbook is, “We Can’t Describe it.” The past members of Journalism chose this because the school has so many special elements that many schools around the area don’t have. The book will have a brighter vibe, rather than just sticking to the school colors, red, black, white, or grey. The photo elements will also be different, with lots of cutouts.
