Super Bowl LVIII Recap

Super Bowl LVIII Recap

On February 11th in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Super Bowl LVIII took place with the San Francisco 49ers vs the Kansas City Chiefs. The Super Bowl this year was expected to reach 110 million viewers. To start off the game, the 49ers received Kansas City’s kickoff. Neither team was able to score in the first quarter, which has only happened ten times in Super Bowl history. In the second quarter, the 49ers’ kicker, Jake Moody, successfully kicked a 55 yard field goal to not only score their team 3 points, but he also broke the Super Bowl record for farthest made field goal; however, his celebration was only temporary. Later in the quarter, 49ers stand-out running back, Christian McCaffrey, received a 21 yard touchdown pass from wide receiver, Jauan Jennings. With twenty seconds to go in the half, Kansas City was able to score three points from kicker Harrison Butker for a halftime score of 10-3, 49ers.

The halftime show this year featured Usher and had special performances by Alicia Keys, Ludacris, H.E.R., Lil John, will.i.am, and others.

In the third quarter, Butker broke Moody’s newly set record for the Super Bowl’s longest field goal with a 57 yard kick. Not too long after, Kansas City wide receiver, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, caught a 16 yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs were able to keep the 49ers from scoring in the third, which had an end score of 10-13, Chiefs. To start the fourth quarter, the 49ers scored a touchdown by Jennings and, unfortunately for them, their extra point was blocked. The Chiefs scored a field goal followed up by a 49ers field goal, which was followed by another Chiefs field goal to end the fourth quarter in a tie, 19-19. During the fourth quarter of the game, the much-talked-about DoorDash commercial aired. This commercial gave a very long promocode that you could enter to win one item from every Super Bowl ad, including multiple vehicles, a 30 lb tub of mayonnaise, a pickleball set with a baby doll, and many more sweepstakes.

The 49ers had the first possession in overtime and were unable to score a touchdown, but were able to successfully kick a field goal. The Chiefs had to either tie it up or score a touchdown in their possession, otherwise the 49ers win. With three seconds to go, Chiefs’ wide receiver, Mecole Hardman, received a 3 yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to win it all. Super Bowl LVIII ended 22-25, Chiefs. The Super Bowl MVP was Patrick Mahomes. This was Mahomes’ third Super Bowl win.
