OHS students at FCA Camp 2023

School has started and that means FCA has too! FCA is an acronym that stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Orion has had FCA for many years and we hope it always continues.

The first meeting of the school year was held on Tuesday, August 22nd. There was a great turnout of people with around 30 attendants that included both new and returning faces.

There was a leader’s meeting at the beginning of August where they discussed possible ideas for this upcoming year. The leaders hope to host a Fields of Faith with Sherrard again this year. They also hope to ring bells for the Salvation Army outside of HyVee like some were able to do last year (2022). The leaders also made some suggestions about making the meetings more meaningful. They came up with making huddles more fun with games and competitions, but also making lessons longer and more significant.

This past summer (2023), many OHS students and alumni were able to attend an FCA sports camp in Pella, Iowa. During FCA camp, campers choose a sport to focus on and practice it throughout the week. There is also a main message every night and smaller breakout huddles during the day to grow campers’ faith. FCA camp is a great opportunity to grow in your sport and faith. Everyone who has attended loves it and hopes to continue going back.

OHS FCA’s main sponsor is Jeremiah Bullock, the pastor at the First Baptist Church in Orion. Other adult volunteers are Mrs. Hutton, OHS math teacher; Amy Kayser, OHS girls’ head track coach; and Jeff Bernhardt, OHS boys’ head soccer coach. FCA really appreciates these people who help make everything possible.

FCA hosts meetings every Tuesday morning at 7:10am in the library. At the meetings, they start with a prayer and then breakfast. There is always a really good breakfast provided! After people have had time to eat, the leader of the day gives a short message usually followed by a fun game or activity.

FCA is a lot of fun and a good club to join. Remember, there is always delicious, free breakfast and it is a welcoming environment. Join us for our next FCA meeting on Tuesday!
