Movies coming out in April/May

Ahead of the big summer release schedule, there are a lot of movies that come out that set the tone and expectations for the summer releases. These ones are sometimes very good, as seen in the last two years with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3Evil Dead Rise, and Top Gun: Maverick which all released before June. This year, these three movies are what I think are going to lead the way into summer releases season.

1. The Fall Guy (May 3rd)

“A down-and-out stuntman must find the missing star of his ex-girlfriend’s blockbuster film.” –IMDb

I’ve talked about it before, but obviously, a comedy action movie directed by David Leitch and starring Ryan Gosling is going to be a big hit and will set the fun expectations for all the movies coming out this summer. It also is getting genuinely good reviews in almost every way possible so the movie is tracking to be pretty huge.

2. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (May 10th)

“Many years after the reign of Caesar, a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he’s been taught about the past and make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.” –IMDb

The long-awaited sequel to the new Planet of the Apes trilogy is also looking to not be a disappointment as the trailer was very promising. Losing Matt Reeves and Andy Serkis is a huge loss, but there is still promise here with the Maze Runner director, Wes Ball.

3. Furiosa (May 24th)

“The origin story of renegade warrior Furiosa before her encounter and teamup with Mad Max.” –IMDb

After Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015, this franchise is on fire and the fact that George Miller is coming back to direct only adds to it. The over-the-top designs and the very vivid coloring are also returning, as well as Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth making their first appearance.
