The Lonely Hearts Killers

The Lonely Hearts Killers

On March 8, 1951, the couple known as the Lonely Hearts Killers, Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck were executed for their serial killer spree involving single women. This deadly duo first started as Fernandez was released after serving time for petty theft. The man believed after learning voodoo from his cellmate he became irresistible to women, leading him to start a string of scams involving single women. These scams involved Fernandez sending out a bunch of letters to single women he had saw the ads for, flirted with them, gained their trust, and robbed them, all before disappearing from their lives forever.

That was until one of his victims, Beck herself, showed up at her doorstep with her two kids. Beck had wanted to stay together with Fernandez, the only condition being that to stay, she’d have to get rid of her kids. Desperate, Beck abandoned her kids at a Salvation Army, marking the start of a terrible killing spree.

The couple continued to scam single women, but eventually Beck became more and more unstable, leaving her spiraling mentally due to her jealousy of having to share Fernandez with the women they were scamming, starting the switch from scams to serial killings of their victims. The two were finally arrested and sentenced to capital punishment (death) by electric chair after they murdered a young widow and her child. They were believed to have murdered as many as 20 people.

This couple, a match made in hell, serves as a warning to those searching to soothe their loneliness online.
