Valentines Day

Valentines Day is celebrated on February 14th every year. Formal messages, or Valentines, appeared in the 1500’s. By the 1700’s commercially printed cards were being used. The very first commercial for Valentines Day  in the U.S was printed in the mid 1800’s. This day is very popular in the United States as well as in Britain, Canada, and Australia, and it is also celebrated in other countries, including Argentina, France, Mexico, and South Korea. In the Philippines it is the most common wedding anniversary. Valentines Day has expanded to expressions of affection among friends, couples, and relatives. The main purpose of celebrating Valentines Day is to celebrate romantic love, friendships, and admiration.

Some fun things people do on Valentines Day is going for walks, watching the sunset, hanging out with their loved ones, playing games together, or going out and buying chocolate. Traditionally, on Valentines Day you show your love for another person by sending cards, gifts and messages of love. Couples give cards or presents to each other, but you can also send something to friends or family. Candy is the most popular gift to give. Such as a lot of chocolate, starbursts, and candy hearts.

Valentines Day originated as a Christian Feast day honoring a martyr named Valentine. Through later folk traditions, it has also become significant culture, commercial and religious celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.  The first Valentines Day celebration took place in France.
