The Holiday Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a well known Holiday in the U.S. and Canada. They celebrate the harvest and the blessings of the past year. In 1817, NY became the first of several states to officially adopt an annual Thanksgiving Holiday. Families would celebrate it on different days than other families.

Thanksgiving became a time to gather with your loved ones. This Holiday is very popular. In many American households, the celebration now centers on cooking and sharing time with family and friends. The most popular feast that is made is the Turkey. The turkey is well known during Thanksgiving. Some ask why is the turkey so popular during Thanksgiving. There are a few reasons why the turkey is so popular during this time. One expert estimated that there we at least 10 million turkeys in America during European contact. While other livestock animals like cows and hens were producing eggs and milk, the turkey was used for their meat. Another reason why is because a whole turkey can fill up a family.

During Thanksgiving there are many activities to do such as, watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, share what your most thankful for, watch an American football game, and play some party games.  A popular one is watching the parade either on Tv or in person. The first Thanksgiving parade took place in 1924, when some employees marched through 34th street dressed as cowboys and knights. Now we have huge floats that are either automatic or just blow up.
