Social media is a known world wide by all teens. This can negatively and positively effect teens in many different ways. Social media allows teens to express themselves, and all their emotions. It allows teens to create online identities and give them a safe place to put there feelings out. Social media is also used for entertainment and education. Teens may be able to learn many things from social media. For example, teens can learn how to bake from their other online peers, or could be taught things by other friends online. Lastly one way social media is positive, is how it gives teens the oppertunity to connect to each other, and create memories. This allows long distance friendships, and relationships. However social media can also be harmful in many different ways, it can effect their sleep schedules, exposing them to bullies, and rumor spreading. This is seen world wide, and have a very negative effect on our teens society. This bullying and negative words, can lead to many emotional problems and detachments for teens. According to mayoclinic.org, ” A 2019 study of more than 6,500 12- to 15-year-olds in the U.S. found that those who spent more than three hours a day using social media might be at heightened risk for mental health problems.” This statistic shows the negative of social media definitely outweighs the positives. Seeing a lot of negative thoughts about yourself is very bad for mental health so, teens need to be more aware of these effects so they can be safer online, and stay away from all negativity.
