Stupid Things About School

January 24, 2023
First of all, students should be able to wear hoodies in class if you know who the student is and if they ask permission. “I just want to be allowed to wear a hoodie or a beanie in class without getting in trouble for it. Why do schools care about hats/hoodies but not bullies?”, said by xxSocietys_Biggest_Rebelxx (a student at another school).
Secondly, students should not be punished in class because of one student that decides to talk in class. “That is seriously unfair and downright evil. Quite often the only thing to come out of this is the entire class brutally ganging up on the one kid who broke the rules – bullying is a big enough problem in schools as is!”, said by Entranced98 (another student who doesn’t go to our school)
Another thing is heavy textbooks. They want us to take our (math, science, health, etc.) books to every class until the end of the day and barely go to our lockers. “…When I was in 4th grade I had to go t the chiropractor and my neck/the way my head sat on my body were out of the line so yes this should be ilegal.” said by a student not in this school. “It’s like schools want us to break our backs”, said xxSocietys_Biggest_Rebelxx.
ANOTHER BIG THING IS…IF A STUDENT HAS TO GO TO THE RESTROOM THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO. THERE SHOULD NOT BE A PERSON THAT CAN TELL YOU THAT YOU CANT, AS LONG AS YOU KNOW WHERE WE ARE GOING, IT SHOULD BE FINE.

As a former teenager in high school, I respect the disestablishmentarianism (sticking it to “the man”). However, knowing what I do now – some reasons behind these school decisions (not meant to persuade you, just another perspective):
1) Hats/hoodies make it harder to identify someone. Number one priority for school staff is safety, and being able to identify students is important to that.
2) Punishing the group for the actions of the individual is wrong, pretty simple and I agree. However the actions of one may ruin a privilege for the rest, because it is difficult to enforce something on an individual basis.
3) Yeah carrying books around isn’t the best, but at least we do have lockers.
4) They should, unless they use this as an opportunity to go elsewhere and break the trust of a basic privilege.
