On Wednesday, September 14th, an all-time record was set for the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team. Pitcher and catcher combo, Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina, started for the 325th time together, breaking the record currently set by the Tigers’ Bill Freehan and Mickey Lolich. They first pitched and caught together on September 23, 2005 in Milwaukee. Since then, they have had 213 team wins over the past 15 years. They broke this record with a great win over the Milwaukee Brewers in front of almost 47,000 people! The manager of the team, Oliver Marmol does not think that this record will ever be broken. Chicago Cubs pitcher and catcher combo, Kyle Hendricks and Willson Contreras, are predicted to be close to this record, with 105 starts together. But, Hendricks will not pitch again this season because of a tear in his right shoulder.

Here are some facts about this pitcher and catcher combo to celebrate them making history:

-When Adam Wainwright was first drafted to the MLB, he wasn’t drafted by the Cardinals. He was actually traded to the Braves in 2000 from his high school in Georgia. He played with the Braves for 3 years, before being traded to the Cardinals in December of 2003.

-The first time Wainwright pitched to Molina was in 2005, and Wainwright threw a scoreless inning of relief for the Cardinals.

-The first time Wainwright and Molina started together was on April 6, 2007 in Houston Texas. He pitched 7 very strong innings for his first MLB win as the starting pitcher.

-This is Yadier Molina’s last season in the MLB. He wants to end his MLB career on a high note and in a great organization.

-Wainwright and Molina are a great duo to thank for lots of the Cardinals wins over the years. Through the games they have started, their record is 213-112. The Cardinals have a 0.655 winning percentage when Wainwright and Molina duo start.

Do you think this record will ever be broken again?
