Are Movie Theaters Going Away?

Alec Noyd, Writer

Since The Covid pandemic hit a couple of years ago, many small businesses hit a drop in profits due to people not going in and buying their merchandise. One of the hardest-hit sectors was movie theaters. Unlike most stores where you can shop online, theaters require the public to physically come in and purchase tickets, food, etc to keep the place running. Now that Covid is being well treated, people have started coming in with families to watch the new, trending moving just out. But Covid wasn’t the issue, it just made the business hurt worse. Many people (me included) have programs, and channels that will bring the movie straight to your room. Channels such as HBO, Hulu, Netflix, and others took the opportunity that the theater cant and let people spend less for more entertainment. When the virus hit, movies like Kong vs Godzilla relied on HBO to stream the movie to the public.

Why aren’t the Movie Theaters dead then?

Even though I would rather see a movie at my house without spending money on overpriced food and drinks, there is just a different experience. Bowtiecinemas.com says “You can Dedicate your entire evening to planning activates before and after the movie”. Which is exactly what people do. The theater is a great place to bring a shared experience with the whole family or friends that you can’t do at home. The reason they are so expensive is that its not a regular activity, but a bigger experience with a massive screen and sound quality. Because of this, it is very unlikely that Movie theaters will close anytime soon. I am very interested in whether you prefer the movies over staying at home.
