The girls track team competed in Sectionals last Thursday at home. The girls had a few standouts, Alexandra Mack and Danielle Taets, both of whom won many events that evening and qualified for state. That night, the girls were announced as placing second but it was later discovered that there was an error in the scoring. Instead of scoring six places per event, there were eight places scored per event. With the eigh-place scoring format, Mercer County High School was the champion but with the correct six-place scoring format, Orion was rightfully recognized as the winner. This mistake was found by Orion meet management within the allotted time frame to correct errors after the event and was correctable through IHSA rules, making Orion the Sectional champion.
