Softball First in Conference

The Orion softball team has been on a winning streak, coming back after a bumpy start at the start of the season. The team’s first game of the season was against Geneseo where they suffered a tough loss, followed by well fought loss to Galesburg as well. After these two tough games, the Lady Chargers made a quick turn around and won their next five games. The girls played United, Annawan, Erie, and Riverdale twice, all of which ended in wins. The team’s record is 5-2 and has placed them first in the conference. With very few games under their belts, some of the members of the team are off to a great start. Hailey Frutiger has hit six home runs so far this season in only seven games, and received pacesetter last week. Anne Smolenski has also had a great start to the season with three home runs so far. The softball team will be back in action Thursday night playing Morrison, Saturday against Princeton, Monday and Wednesday against Rockridge, and Tuesday against Ridgewood.
