A Day in the Life of a Dad

Katie Noyd, Journalist

This week’s amazing dad is your one and only, Chip Filler. As many may know, his amazing family has 5 kids, Riley,14; Kasey, 14; Kamryn, 12,; Kale, 10; and Kendal, 8. His favorite thing about being a dad is watching his kids in sporting events and doing the things they love. He also loves/ loved when his kids are young they would always sit on the couch and watch T.V. together. He said Kendel is getting towards the end of wanting to watch T.V. together because she is beginning to get to old for it in her mind. Over time, a few things have surprised him, but overall it has been harder than he had imagined, especially when you juggle 5 very active children. It is difficult managing 5 different personalities, but it is a difficult challenge he enjoys. His favorite dad joke is “Knock knock, who’s there? Tuna. Tuna who? You can’t tuna fish but you can tuna piano.” Something he has always instilled in his children is the value of listening; always do what you’re asked. In other words, do your job. Often times in his house, he likes to say “My house is not a democracy!” even though most of his kids do not know what a democracy is. His kids are all very active, they are in Student Council and countless sports. They are all also very active within their church and youth group. In his household, family dinner was not important for him growing up so now he makes it very important in raising his children because for a family it is very important to come together and share as often as possible. He and Jill both make a strong effort to make family dinner as often as possible, but with 5 active children, it can be very difficult as many may know. The only thing his family always reminisces on is each child’s birth. They all have a unique birth with each child, and it’s often a story they enjoy retelling and remembering. All in all, being a dad has been one amazing gift he has been given, and he has greatly enjoyed this gift.
