Drew’s Train of Thought

Do you ever get chills when you listen to certain types of music? I do, and I know I’m not the only one. These phenomena are actually scientifically called frissons. Over half to two-thirds of the population experience this phenomena. According to SmithsonianMag.com, people who experience this sensation have brains that are wired differently than those who don’t. People that experience frissons have more nerve fibers the auditory cortex, a region of the brain that process sound, to the anterior insular cortex, the region of the brain that processes feelings. Mitchell Colver, who has studied this phenomena, says that people who are more intellectually engaged in the music are more likely to experience frissons. People who interact with music intellectually (trying to predict the melody or putting a mental imagery to the music) experience the phenomena when the music deviates from their expectations in a positive way. But frissons are not completely limited to music, they can also occur in people when they look at artwork or while they are reading a book. Particularly interesting, the neurotransmitter dopamine floods the body while frissons occur. Quite literally, you feel pleasure from getting this feeling. Since dopamine also helps with blood flow, I guess you could almost say that listening to certain types of music can help your blood flow better. Isn’t it extremely amusing how easily things can be lost in translation? For example, the song below is from the spring musicalĀ Guys and Dolls. The song is titled “Sit Down, You’re Rocking The Boat.” The original lyrics are here, if you want to see what the song should be, but imagine how dangerous this could be if you were in the past and trying to communicate with someone, especially if you needed to send it through a courier service that is from a different country than both parties. Imagine trying to ask for help from a foreign land but accidentally offending them and receiving nothing or possibly something bad in return.

“Put on, turn the ship”

I came to the sky yesterday
But well, I brought my dress
I am here
And I said, Who will fade me?
The travelers knew it was wrong.
People sat down and sat on the boats

Everyone is sitting there
Do not cry, you are in the boat.

Satan will also attack you
By wearing a gun,
Breakfast

Do not cry, you are in the boat.

I’ll go to Paradise with this little boat
I suddenly saw the blister
He is sorry and forgiving
However, the passengers were forced to refuse
Beware of people for everything
You are not a good travel
Everyone knows
Please note that you are in the boat.
Satan will also attack you
Along with the bad things in the bag
Breakfast
You are sitting in the boat

And how does he grow up in heaven? (Real)
The biggest shot came and I was in the crack.
I had a tree and said, “Who can save me?” I’m shouting
I thank your Lord
I thought I could sleep,
You are in a boat
He is sitting and commanding you to go, you are a boat
The devil comes under you of great significance,
Breakfast
Sit down, boat, boat in the boat
