A Day in the Life of a Dad

Katie Noyd, Writer

This weeks Day in the Life of a Dad is our one and only Mr. Anderson! Mr. Anderson is our Drivers Ed instructor who is the sole reason behind why 90% of us have our licenses today. Mr. Anderson has 5 children although sadly last summer, he lost his youngest son Kyle at the age of 30. Wade is his eldest son who is now 43, Jeremy is 39, Clint is 38, and Scott who is 33. Two of his sons are workers in the Nuclear plant, one a supervisor and one who is the repair technician. The other two work in Cobham in Davenport, a mission systems company. His late son Kyle worked in rough edge of Chicago. He worked as a pastor up there and would walk from work late in the night all the way home and was highly respected and defended throughout the whole area. Mr. Anderson’s favorite thing about being a dad is being so close with his family. His whole family lives in this area still, they always get together for birthdays, celebrations, and often enjoy going on vacations together as a group. They have recently already planned their trip to Florida. This could also be because growing up a strong value within their family was family dinner. They always made an effort to sit down together and eat as a family, unless of course there was sports or coaching going on. Overtime the aspects of being a dad that have surprised him are how all of the personalities of his children are so different. Growing up his kids surprised him and became MMA fighters, even though they are very compassionate. This also goes along with his favorite memory of his kids all growing up. Although he could have given me 100,000 answers for this question, especially with having 5 boys, he decided to make it simple for me. He said his favorite memories would be watching his children grow up into young men and shape their own personalities over time. Last but certainly not least I asked him what phrase or moral he has and will always instill in his children and he answered with hard work and being responsible. So next time you see this amazing man smiling at you from a mile away in the commons don’t forget to give this great dad a smile back because he’s probably the reason you have your license today.
