Katie Noyd, Journalist

This week’s dad for our “Day In the Life of a Dad” is the one and only, Mr. Slaton! Have you ever wondered what it’s like to take a peek into Mr. Slaton’s life at home? Well, here you are. Mr. Slaton has two kids, one daughter who is 28, and a son who is 25. Both of his children went to the University of Missouri, his daughter was accepted into the journalist program (which is #1 in the country) and maintained A’s all through college. His son received a major in business management and a minor in accounting but is now going back to college in order to pursue a masters in project management. Mr. Slaton made a point to mention that his daughter was very clever in the way she finished her master in just 5 ½ years. Some of his favorite things about being a dad is watching his kids grow and develop along with watching them open gifts on Christmas. Something that has surprised him about being a dad is how quickly time has passed. “It seems like just yesterday they were kids growing up,” said Mr. Slaton during our interview. His daughter now lives in Missouri and is a successful Marketing Director. His son is an accountant in Galesburg but does not enjoy it and is going back to pursue a second degree. Both of his kids enjoy biking. He still bikes with his son, but because his daughter is so far away, he is not able to bike with her. His favorite memory of his kids growing up is when his daughter called her mom an inappropriate name, got a spanking, then was soon convinced she must be more respectful. His favorite memory of his son was when he started playing little league baseball, (he was 8 or 9) and he came up to the fence during the game and yelled to both Mr.Slaton and his wife “I love baseball!”. There’s your peek into the dad life of our amazing Mr.Slaton!
