Ralph Yarl Shooting

Ralph Yarl Shooting

Ralph Yarl, a black 16 year old high school student, was shot twice for going to the wrong house while trying to pick up his younger siblings. Andrew Lester, an 84 year old white man, fired a shot into Ralph’s head and arm. Yarl read the wrong address while picking up his younger brothers from a friend’s house. When he arrived to the house, he rang the doorbell which alerted Lester. Before he answered the door, he grabbed his revolver claiming he thought his house was getting broken into. Once he got to the door, without exchanging any words, Lester shot Yarl in the head and the arm through a glass door. As the teenage boy began to run he heard the homeowner shout, “Don’t come around here”. Yarl said he went to multiple homes before someone agreed to help him. The homeowner was charged with first-degree assault giving him up to 30 years and armed criminal action giving him an additional 15 years. Lester pleaded not guilty to those two felonies. As for Ralph Yarl, he survived the shooting and is now in the hospital getting the help he needs.
