An alligator was ‘arrested’ on Wednesday, March 29th, when it was found walking near Tampa Bay stadium in Florida. The police were alerted to the area because of a reported disturbance and were expecting to see a public brawl. instead they found a 9 foot alligator just wandering down the street not far from Raymond James Stadium. The alligator had whipped its tail around several times to ward off the officers who were approaching the animal with his baton. About half a dozen onlookers and officers were watching from afar and saw how the alligator was behaving. The officer then decided to make a noose like loop from his rope and lassoed it around the top of the alligator’s mouth. The officers then teamed up and prepared to jump onto this 9 foot alligator. One officer says, “Ready? You want to jump on him?” They then proceeded to jump on the alligator and one officer went for the head while the other weighed down the alligator’s body. Another officer was then asked to help the two hold down the alligator. One officer kept the animal’s mouth shut while another one of the officers grabbed a towel to cover its eyes and also put some duct tape over its mouth. They also taped the alligator’s legs together to prevent it from escaping. “Behind his back, like you’re handcuffing him,” an officer said. Phil Walters, who is an alligator trapper and is with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Nuisance Alligator Program, was called in to assist the officers. He said he was impressed with the job done by Tampa’s police before he arrived at the scene. “And they did a great job,” Walters told Tampa television station WFLA. “They had that thing taken care of for me.”
