Strange National Holidays

Strange+National+Holidays

I find all the “national” days to be quite entertaining. This week I did some research about some of the more odd holidays.

I found a holiday for every day of the calendar year! I found this so surprising as I didn’t know that people had deemed everyday some sort of “holiday”. Some of the stranger ones I learned about are “National Chocolate Covered  Cashew Day ” on January 5th. I asked around to see what people at OHS would make national holidays if they could. Britani Trujillo said “Hmm that’s hard! I feel like everything is already a holiday.” Christian Lapsey, “The fact that we only have one day for veterans is pretty odd. Or even first responders.” Kaitlyn Wilburn said, “It would be a national food holiday and we would grub all day long. Pizza, chicken nuggets, and casseroles is all that I have in mind.” Mrs. Kershaw contributed to this conversation by claiming that the day after Halloween should be a holiday. Her reasoning is that parents are always extra tired after a night of dealing with tired, hyped up kids. Abby Bindewald suggested a “Dog mom day” could be interesting.

Along with establishing strange national days, comes having to find ways to celebrate them. What comes to my mind for events like Dog mom’s day is marketing. We only normally see a lot of marketing for things like Christmas and Valentines day. It would be interesting to see if stores ever take any sort of marketing path with all these “national” holidays.
