I know we all love that Monday we always have off in January that we’ve always known as Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This week I did some research on this legend. I know we all grew up knowing he was a key person in the racial movements in the 1950’s. King was born January 15,1929 in Atlanta, GA. He started his role in leadership as a Pastor in a local Southern Baptist Church. King, of course, grew up around constant racism and as he had kids he found a fire inside of him to make that reality different for them. King is famous for his “I Have a Dream” speech that was given at a rally where thousands of people got a glimpse into King’s world. Although that particular speech made a huge impact, King’s main skill was peaceful protests. Things like organizing the bus boycotts helped King to show the unfairness of the world without causing major violence. King’s main strength was these non-violent protests. He didn’t see a point in causing  violence in an already cruel world. Things like the March to Washington showed the world how unfair it was and how regular people can change it. King was awarded the nobel peace prize in 1964 and every year since 1968 MLK has been a national holiday.
