The Met Gala

The Met Gala

Kaitlyn Wilburn, Writer

This past sunday The Met Gala was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This event is most famous for its high celbrity attendance and the extravagant costumes worn by celebrities. We all know the pictures all come from the celebrities walking the red carpet into the gala, but what happens after the red carpet? After the red carpet the celebs enter the museum to a cocktail party to see the new exhibit, and this event lasts about an hour or so. After that, they watch live performances and have dinner. This event is extremely exclusive and held by invitation only. Most of the time big designers buy whole tables at the desk and invite celebrities to come to the event and wear their designs. There is also a list of celebrities who are banned from attending the Met Gala, which are all for different reasons. You also must be approved to go by the host Anna Wintour. The tables usually cost between $275,000 to $500,000, and a singular seat starts at $30,000. The money from the ticket sales go to the Costume Institute.
