Labradors are consistently ranked as one of the most favorite dog breeds. They are known for being playful, intelligent, and their friendly temperament, making them a top choice for a family dog. Labs are generally very good with kids and other dogs. They are also very hard working. Labs make very good hunting partners. They will retrieve anything!

Labradors also have a long history of being service dogs, whether helping people with day to day tasks, acting as sight dogs, or K-9.

Labs are easy to train. If they receive the proper training and attention, they can perform many more commands than sit, stay, and roll over. Our lab learned these commands in a week of training.

They are a very popular family dog, excellent with children.  Labs are a very gentle and patient breed.  They enjoy excitement and playing outdoors.  We can throw a ball for hours with our lab.

Labrador Retrievers are generally a very healthy breed. You can expect them to be part of your family for 10 – 12 years.  Typical issues with aging labs are hip and knee dysplasia.

Labs have a short double coat to help keep them warm and waterproof. One negative – they do shed.  It is important to brush your lab often.

They will be your best workout partner. Labs are high energy dogs that can keep going and going. It’s important to watch them for exhaustion because they do not know how to quit.

The toughest decision will be which color to choose.  Most common is the black, chocolate, and yellow labs.

A labrador retriever will be a great addition to any family!
