All About Bees
Bees

Bees are so important for us humans. They are one of the most important pollinators for food crops. Honey bees live in colonies with just one queen bee that runs the whole hive. Usually there is only one queen bee in a hive. The queen just lays the eggs while all the other bees have a job. The workers forage for food which is the pollen and nectar from a flower. They build and protect the hive, clean, and also circulate air by beating their wings. If the queen were to die then they would feed one of the female bees a food called “royal jelly” It helps the female bee become a fertile queen. She would then be considered the new queen of the hive until the process starts all over again. The worker honeybees are all females, they are the ones people would see flying all around the hive providing all the honey. They forage for food, build all the honey combs, and protect the hives. The honey bees are starting to disappear due to a colony collapse disorder. Scientists are not so sure why that is. All honey bees are social insects and live together in a hive or a nest. The honey bee is known for the dancing movements they preform in the hive to communicate information to the other bees they pollinate with.  They do this dances to communicate about location, distance, size, and quantity of a food source that could be in the area. Honey bees have benefits for us humans too. They help with pollination of agricultural crops. Without honey bees, human nutrition would suffer.
