Top Five Books in My Opinion

Mason Teemant, Writer

There are many books out there in the literary world. Lots of different genres and writing styles. Not every book may appeal to you. I myself am a constant reader, and the following books are my favorite so far.

Number 5: Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris

When I first started reading this book, I had high expectations. I had seen the movie and knew the general plot line of the story. This book completely surpassed my expectations. It is so beautifully written; the plot, the characters, and how it was all pulled together. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants a short- but sweet- thriller novel.

Number 4: Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

Another novel that has a popular movie based on it. This is a fantastic book, especially having seen the movie. It is quite different from the Steven Spielberg adaptation. This is a bit of a longer read, but it is worth the time.

Number 3: The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien

If you are a fantasy fan, this is a good book for you. This is such a good book that brings you through the vast lands of Middle Earth. It is nothing like the later books by Tolkien (The Fellowship of the Ring, Etc.). This book goes by fast when you get into it. It is an imaginative story that I enjoy.

Number 2: Red Dragon by Thomas Harris

This book is the prequel to the Silence of the Lambs novel. This was the first Thomas Harris novel that I read. It is the introduction of Doctor Hannibal Lecter. It follows the story of Will Graham, a detective for the FBI. He is hunting down a serial killer with the “help” of Dr.Lecter. It is an enthralling story that I enjoyed very much. In my opinion this book changed the suspense genre of literature. If you like the Silence of the Lambs movie, you will like this book.

Number 1: The Shining by Stephen King

This is definitely my favorite book by far. It takes horror novels to the next level. While the story starts off slow, it picks up in pace and will blow you away. It is such a good book, and you never expect the ending. Not only is the plot and story progression good, but the character development is superb. Overall this book is a fantastic way to spend time. I’d give it a solid 9.354 out of 10.
