“Up where they walk, Up where they run, Up where they stay all day in the sun, Wanderin’ free – wish I could be, Part of that world”, are song lyrics most people have heard. If you have never heard these lyrics before, they come from the movie The Little Mermaid. The first Little Mermaid came out in 1989, starring Jodi Benson as the voice of Ariel. Ariel is a mermaid who wants to see the real world, rather than living underwater her whole life. The plot of the story consists of Ariel making a deal with a sea witch to trade her beautiful voice with a pair of legs so she can walk in the world. While she is out of water, she meets a prince, who she instantly falls in love with. I am sure you can guess how the story ends.

On May 26th of this year, Disney is coming out with a live action film of this movie. Halle Bailey is playing the role of Ariel, along with Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Music is composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken. It has the same story-line as the original. The teaser trailer came out September 9th, 2022, but the official trailer was first shown at the Oscars. It has gotten a lot of hate because of who plays Ariel. People are mad about her race because it is a different one than the Ariel who is in the 1989 movie.

I don’t know about you, but I am really excited to see the new movie. I love all of the old Disney movies that are remade into live action films. Here is a link to the trailer if you want to watch it.
