Iran Protests Result in Executions

Women in Iran have begun protests due to the death of Mahsa Amini. Mahsa was beaten to death just because she was seen in public by the morality police wearing skinny jeans and improperly wearing her hijab. Although women started the protests, men and children have joined the protests. Ramyar Hassani says, “All of Iran is united…Their demand is the same.” Iranians have taken part in almost every form of a peaceful protest. Women are burning their hijabs and cutting their hair off. There are strikes in universities and schools. Iran’s soccer team even refused to sing their national anthem during the World Cup. Due to these protests they have begun more public executions. On December 8 they hanged 23-year old Mohsen Shekari. Just four days later, they hanged 23-year old Majidreza Rahnavard. They left his hanging body on display from a construction crane. The Iranian authorities and human right groups have confirmed 24 more people have been charged with the death penalty. Iranian citizens are fearing mass executions due to the major number of people being held in jail because of the protests. In 1988, Iranian authorities executed 2,800-5,000 people because of protests.

So, how can you help with the tragedies in Iran?

2)Make a donation: Due to US sanctions, you can’t send donations directly to the protesters, but here as some players you can donate to:  The Iranian Diaspora Collective,The Center for Human Rights in Iran, and The Abdorrahman Boroumand Center

3)Sign a petition: There are many petitions that need signing in order to bring Iranians freedom and justice. Here is a link to one that needs 1,000,000 signatures: https://www.change.org/p/g7-leaders-expel-iran-s-diplomats-demand-that-political-prisoners-be-freed
