Everyone is absolutely raving about this crazy phenomenon called Momo. Momo originated from a chinese sculpture created by the Japanese artist Keisuke Aiso (Aisawa) from the special effects company Link Factory and was placed on display at the Vanilla Gallery in Tokyo, Japan. The sculpture of half chicken, half demented lady went viral and created The Momo Challenge. The rumor is that The Momo Challenge is actually a suicide challenge going around on children’s youtube videos. These videos challenged the watching children to find new ways to commit suicide or self harm. It wasn’t long before stories of little girls and a little boy who had actually followed through and ended their own life because of this challenge emerged. These rumors were quickly cleared up, reiterating that no one had actually died from the videos and that they weren’t real. Although this hoax brought so many terrifying images and content to the table, it actually ended up bringing some good, too. The Momo Challenge grew so fast that it terrified parents and made them realize how dangerous the internet can be for young, growing minds. These parents are now beginning to monitor what their kids are watching and are much more careful after the scary image and story of Momo.
