Emiliah Morrison

St. Patrick’s day is right around the corner, but do you know the holiday’s facts?

  • The Shamrock is Ireland’s national emblem and their meaning is hope, faith, luck and love.
  • The prime minister of Ireland gives the U.S. a crystal bowl of live shamrocks showing their close ties every St. Patrick’s day.
  • 1962 was the first year Chicago dyed the river green for St. Patrick’s day.
  • The original color St. Patrick wore was blue, but it changed to green because of Ireland’s independence being linked with it.
  • More than 60 million shamrock shakes have been sold since 1970.
  • You have a 1 in 10,000 chance of finding a four leaf clover (shamrock).
  • The real St. Patrick wasn’t Irish, he was born in Britain to a Christian family.
  • 90% of Americans celebrate St.Patrick’s day.
