Review of the Halftime Show

Katie Noyd, Journalist

Last night’s Super Bowl included many feelings from fans and critics, but many who were not be as invested in the game waited for the halftime show. Sunday night’s halftime show was performed by Maroon Five with the lead singer Adam Levine as well as Travis Scott, Big Boi, and even Spongebob. According to critics, along with the overall review from USA Today, the halftime show was described as combination of disappointment and bland. When performing a halftime show, people expect surprises and weeks of excitement, however, this performance did not provide that. When finding people for the show this year, the forefront was expected to be Cardi B or Rihanna who both turned down the opportunity  to perform due to the treatment of Colin Kaepernick on his stance of Police Brutality. Maroon Five was obviously the third best option for the show. Although the group did not have any major highlights or surprises, thankfully they had enough big hits over the years to carry them through the performance. The group also learned from shows such as Justin Timberlake last year on how to keep the audience focused on each song rather than just the opener. They also learned from one of the best performances of super bowl history by Beyonce Carter who wowed the crowd with her choreography, stage set up, and overall talent. Thanks to these past performances Maroon Five kept everyone awake for 15 min but by no means did they slay halftime.
