“R&B us not dead… Clearly, people love it.” That is what artist Ella Mai wants the public to think. The artist behind the hit song “Boo’d Up” came out with her first studio album titled Ella Mai at 12:00 A.M EST on October 12th. The album has a total of 16 songs with a 55 minute run time. A part of this shorter run time is that Ella Mai knows when to end her songs. She doesn’t keep songs goes that don’t need to be long like some artists today.

Previously stated, Ella is coming off a huge success with the song titled “Boo’d Up”, the song was a huge hit currently certified Triple Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). How does an artist top this? The answer is to create an album that features your best work on your own and then bring in some amazing features. That is just Ella did. She has amazing solo songs on this album then brings in some very notable RnB figures such as Chris Brown and John Legend.

I definitely recommend that you listen to the album the whole way through from the first song “Emotion” all the way to the last song “Naked”. While there are no bad songs on the album, in fact all of the songs are above average, there are songs that top the charts. These songs would include “Dangerous”, “Whatchamacallit (feat. Chris Brown), and “Shot Clock”.

All-in-all, this album is an amazing first to Ella Mai’s career in the music industry. I am very excited to where she goes in her career and also very excited to see how Ella shapes the R&B game in the near future. I give this album a solid 9/10.
