California’s wine country caught fire over this Columbus Day weekend. Reports say that the fires are still raging with some of the strongest ones occurring this Tuesday morning. Seventeen people have died in the fires as of October 10th and a little less than 2000 homes and businesses have been destroyed, forcing about 200,000 people to evacuate the area.

The winds created by the wildfires and the lack of humidity in the area are causing it to spread at an accelerated rate, having reached from Mendocino, California, to Nevada, California, spanning over 100,000 acres. A fire team had been dispatched to contain the fire, but it’s still spreading quickly and is becoming harder to contain.  California’s current Governor, Jerry Brown, had commented on the fires saying, “It’s not under control by any means. But we’re on it in the best way we know how.”

Hopefully, the fire will be snuffed out within the week and California can begin to rebuild and recuperate. In the controversial state our nation is in, I think we can come together and wish California the best of luck.
