Students having pets is a great thing. Animals can provide comfort with emotional support, increase social interaction, and some animals allow their owners to get more exercise. Students who feel lonely may also be experiencing high levels of stress and even depression. Owning a pet is a great way to cope with these negative emotions. So, here’s a list of ten animals that make great pets!

 

  • Snakes 

Snakes are definitely not the most popular choice, but they’re a great pets to own. Snakes are very clean animals, quiet, and low-maintenance. 

  • Lizards 

Lizards are a great first pet. They don’t take up a lot of space, they’re simple pets, they’re fun, and adorable. 

  • Birds 

Birds make a great pet, especially for someone who’s not looking to cuddle an animal. You can enjoy them for their sweet voice and colorful personality. Birds are a great choice for someone who’s looking for low-maintenance companionship!

  • Hamsters 

Although they’re small, they require a lot of attention. But, they can quickly learn to look forward to your presence. 

  • Fish 

Fish are great pet choices for anxiety. The gentle sound of water moving as you watch the fish move can become a pleasant part of your day. 

  • Rabbits 

Rabbits are intelligent and emotionally complex creatures. They learn to recognize their person by sight, sound, and smell. They’re also great cuddling pets!

  • Cats 

Cats are great low-maintenance pets, especially for beginners. Cats do have an independent nature, but that’s not always a bad thing. Cats offer companionship, loyalty, unconditional love, affection, and entertainment. 

  • Dogs

Dogs are often high-maintenance. They need regular exercise, play time, and frequently let outside to use the bathroom. The bond with this pet helps people feel less alone. Dogs often bring happiness because of they’re strong connection with their owner and the physical contact. 

  • Turtles

Turtles are very active and fun animals to play with. They love to entertain themselves, as well. They’re hardy creatures and can be fun to care for. Turtles can also live for decades, with lifelong commitment. 

  • Chinchillas 

Chinchillas are clean, quiet, and attractive rodents that don’t even stink. They can live 10-20 years and they’re often shy. Chinchillas are just a big, cute ball of fur!
