As many movies come out these days, it is easy to miss straight-to-streaming releases or relatively small movies. Often, these movies can be hidden gems, despite the popular opinion that straight-to-streaming releases aren’t great. Here are three new movies I believe to be a good watch if they ever show up on your streaming service.
Inside (2023)

This movie releases straight to Peacock and features Willem Dafoe slowly falling into insanity as he is trapped in a high-rise apartment with no way to escape. The setting in this is odd because it’s like a movie where someone gets stranded on an island or in nature, however it is in a rich person’s apartment that seems in no way unescapable. He is literally 6 inches of steel away from the outside world, but after trying everything, still cannot escape. Towards the end, the movie becomes haunting and leaves the audience on a really good cliffhanger.
Mad God (2022)

This movie is made entirely in stop motion animation and puppet work, aside from a few scenes of people in suits. This was a passion project from the director, writer, and producer Phil Tippett that took 30 years to create while he was also a visual effects supervisor for franchises such as Star Wars and Jurassic Park. The movie is disgusting in nature, but does a very good job describing a world that has been forgotten by the higher power controlling it and has absolutely nothing beautiful or peaceful. The movie is only 80 minutes long but features incredible set pieces that took years to create.
No One Will Save You (2023)

This is the newest movie on this list, and it is an extremely solid watch for an alien invasion movie or a supernatural horror movie. There are only 8 words of dialogue in the whole movie, because the lead has no one to talk to and is alone 90% of the time. There are many tense scenes that work to make this a very scary horror movie and it also has one of the best monster reveals of the year.
