Many of you may of heard of a threat from the government about a ban on tik tok. There are many developments to this statement and no official decisions have been made about it. The reason for the potential tik tok ban is that our government has reason to believe that China is stealing our information from the tik tok platform. The government sees the platform as a potential threat and according to thegaurdian.com , The Biden administration views TikTok as a potential national-security threat and wants its Chinese-owned parent company, ByteDance, to sell the platform to a US-owned company or face a possible ban.” This potential ban could effect many Americans lives on social media. The average american, according to Wallaroo Media, spends 95 minutes a day on Tik Tok alone. This will drastically effect the everyday life of many americans. If this ban is approved there will be no more funny, informational, or sad videos to watch throughout your day. Tik tok is seen as a platform where everyone can express there feelings and share their ideas. There are new developments about this daily and even yesterday there was a block of the ban from a congress member. According to nbcnews.com, “In an opinion piece published Wednesday in the Courier Journal of Louisville, Kentucky, Paul argued that banning TikTok would mimic censorship by the Chinese government. He cast the question of whether to ban the app as a free speech issue and said he would defend it even against members of his party. Paul has maintained that his opposition is not due to the ties of one of his top donor’s to the company.” This block of the ban is showing that if our government bans Tik Tok we are just mocking Chinas censorships.
