Why We Should Have Block Classes

Why We Should Have Block Classes

A block schedule is classes that are around 2 hours, and they only have 3-4 subjects each quarter. The benefit of this schedule is to have a higher understanding of the subject, and less coursework to bring home. This schedule is easy on the students stress, and creates more free time after school. This is better than periods because in a period schedule, you only get around 50 minutes to learn the subject, and you have around 7-8 different classes you have to go to throughout the day. This is very hard on a student because it gives them less time with the teacher to learn, and it gives them so much more coursework to bring home. This also creates more stress for tests because the students get much less time spent in each classroom. According to knoxschools.org, “Research indicates that the block schedule structure generally results in lower workloads
for both students and teachers. Since students are enrolled in fewer courses during a given
time period, the number of assignments that need to be completed is generally lower in the
block schedule.” A block schedule is the best option for the students and teachers, and gives the teachers more time to connect with their students to be able to connect with them and teach to their strengths. Students will feel more comfortable in their classes when their daily activities are comfortable and familiar. It is easy to see that less courses and more time spent learning few subjects is the best options for most students and teachers.
