2022 Recap, Part 2

To continue part 1 of the 2022 recaps, I will be covering important events that happened in the last 6 months of 2022.
July:
- Simone Biles becomes the youngest person to receive the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom. She received this award at age 25 from president Joe Biden.
- The flooding in Garrett County, Kentucky kills more than 37 people, and leaves more than 4 million people under flood alert.
- McKinney fire in Klamath National Forest becomes the largest fire of the year in California. At least 51,000 acres were burned.
August:
- Dr. Fauci announces that he will step down as the chief medical advisor and Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to Joe Biden.
- California votes to ban the selling of gasoline-powered vehicles by the year 2035.
- The largest water treatment plant fails in Jackson, Mississippi. This leaves over 150,000 people without safe water, which causes schools and businesses to close.
September:
- Serena Williams plays her last match at the U.S. Open, losing to Ajla Tomljanovic.
- Queen Elizabeth ll dies after ruling for 70 years, which makes her the longest serving monarch.
- Hurricane Ian hits Cuba as a category 3 storm, which leaves the country without power, and takes the lives of 3 people.
October:
- The new movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has its premiere, making $8 million in just 8 days, according to forbes.com.
- Elon Musk takes over Twitter, and fires 4 people right out of the gates.
- Somebody attacks the 82-year old husband of Nancy Pelosi at their home in California.
November:
- The Houston Astros win the world series, making it their second title in their history. They beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1.
- Four college students were found dead in their home in Idaho. The suspect was arrested 7 weeks later.
- Ticketmaster sells over 2 million tickets for Taylor Swifts “The Eras” tour. This beat the record of the most tickets sold in one day.
December:
- The sci-fi film Avatar: The Way of Water premieres in London.
- Documentary series called Harry & Meghan begins streaming on Netflix.
- Major winter storm across the U.S. causes a lot of chaos, leading states of emergency to be issued in New York and Wisconsin.
