Springtime in the Quad Cities

Springtime in the Quad Cities

Bianca Schnerre, Writer

With springtime right around the corner and Easter weekend ahead I decided to browse around for the Easter events and springtime activities in the quad cities with the hope of good weather, but we do live in the midwest and all know the rhyme “April Showers Bring May Flowers,” but with that being said here are some things to do around the Quad Cities for this Easter weekend and the upcoming springtime season.

A great way to celebrate Easter is to hunt for Easter eggs and the best part is there are many places around the Quad Cities that provide the community with free Easter egg hunts. Spending the time to go on an Easter egg hunt this year with your family or family friends can be a great way to celebrate Easter quickly and free of cost so why not? Our local Easter egg hunt in Orion is this Saturday the 16th at 1:00 p.m. in Love Park.

Easter Egg Hunts Around the Area

Sherrard: April 16th 3pm Fyre Lake Covered Bridge Park

Davenport: Easter Egg Hunt postponed

LeClaire: April 16th 2pm at Huckleberry Park

Springtime Activities

Icecream

“The Best In the Midwest” you can never go wrong with icecream on a nice spring day unless you’re lactose intolerant and even if you are our local Whitey’s ice cream is definitely the ice cream place worth the stomach pains. Country style Whitey’s neighbor on the Avenue of the Cities in Moline is also a close second in my opinion for ice cream, but it depends on what you’re in the mood for. Whitey’s is open and Country style is now open for the 2022 summer or open for the summer 2022 season as well. Whitey’s is prepared for spring with their springtime flavors which include:  Key Lime Pie, Banana Graham, Super Blueberry Cheesecake, Lemon Custard, and Mango Raspberry.

The Zoo

Niabi zoo opens to the public on April 18th. Our local zoo Niabi zoo will be opening for the summer season soon and I know I know before you tell me this is a list of things for little kids to see read on because I would agree we’ve all probably been to Niabi a handful of times and it pretty much stays the same. But, this year Niabi has welcomed two new endangered Amur Leopard cubs and I don’t know about you but I haven’t been there in a while and the new leopard cub additions make me want to revisit that nostalgic childhood place. If you happen to have a younger family member like a sibling or niece/nephew then this could also be fun to take them too.

Hiking

Black Hawk Historic Site in Rock Island is a good place to go in the Quad Cities to experience the outdoors. Black Hawk Historic Site has a many trails and pavilions, so you can hike, pack a lunch, and sit in the cool shade under one of the pavilions.

Baseball

Modern Woodmen park in Davenport has started off their baseball season. Modern Woodmen park is by the river with beautiful scenery and has a family friendly atmosphere with food, beverages, rides, etc. all while you can enjoy a game of baseball.
