Board games have been around for a long time and are played by people all around the world. They can be played by people of all ages and are easy to learn.

The top rated board game of all time is chess. Chess can be traced back to 1200. Chess is a very interesting game with many different pieces that can do different things. Chess is the highest selling board game of all time. In only the US, around 3 million copies are sold every year. 

The second highest rated game is checkers. Checkers has existed since 3000 BC. Checkers is a two player game that consists of 12 checkers per player. Apparently checkers is played worldwide because of the ease of making the boards. 

The third highest rated game is backgammon. Backgammon is another ancient game that has been played since 3000 BC. This game includes a dice and the player moves his pieces according to the number rolled on the dice. By 1953, over 1 million copies had been sold and by 2005, almost 88 million had been sold. 

The fourth highest rated game is Monopoly. Monopoly was introduced to the world in 1934 and has pretty much been a hit since. Monopoly involves the purchase of real estate when you move around the board and try to buy as many destinations as possible. When released, 35000 copies were made per week, and by 2011, it had reached 275 million copies.

The fifth highest rated game is Scrabble. Scrabble has been around since 1938. This game requires good vocabulary skills because of the need to spell words with certain numbers. In 1954, 3.8 million copies were sold, and by 1998, 100 million copies were sold throughout the world. By 2017, over 150 million copies had been sold.
