What day should finals be?

What day should finals be?

Abby Bindewald, Writer

We all know that finals are coming up right around the corner, and currently they are scheduled for the 15th and 16th of December — merely two weeks away. However, there has quietly been a debate between our teachers about whether or not finals should be Wednesday-Thursday, or Thursday-Friday.

The pros of going to school Wednesday-Thursday would be that students would get an extra day to take a mental break before winter break and that students would gain peace of mind from going back to the “old way” of doings things. The only issue is what would we do with that extra day? The simple answer to that, is that it is undecided as of now. The only news we have gotten on the subject is it is expected to be a “fun day.” The only thing we are sure of is that the day will hold no homework, and no stress. It will be used as a kind of mental health day for students to relax and release the stress of finals.

Furthermore, having finals on Thursday-Friday will allow students to sleep in the following day, will give students an extra day to study, and will also allow for a relaxed and easy day after finals. So, what is the problem with having finals on these days? Well, when you think about it, people do a lot of things over the weekend. So, having the day after finals wouldn’t ensure that students have a true mental health day in which they can take a break.

Whether we have finals on the 15th and 16th or the 16th and 17th, they are still coming up quick. Get to studying, but don’t stress too much, there will be plenty of time to do it in the next two weeks.
