Why is Taylor Swift Re-recording Her Albums?

Kaitlyn Wilburn, Writer

As some of you may know, Taylor Swift is re-recording all of her albums that are not owned by her. This is because her first record label, Big Machine Records, owns all of the work she has created with them. This includes songs, original recordings, and masters. This wasn’t a huge problem starting out, because she was only sixteen when her first album came out and didn’t know very much about how the music industry worked. The problem first arose when her work was sold to Ithica Holdings, which is a private-equity group owned by Scooter Braun. Then to make himself more money, he sold her work to Shamrock Holdings for 300 million dollars. However, Scooter and Borschetta were terrible to Taylor and refused to let her own her works and every time she asked they would tell her maybe after you give us another album. Since Scooter owns her first six albums, they control where they are used. This means if she wants to use one of those songs in a movie, it would have to get approved by Scooter. After the big public uproar about Taylor and Scooter, she decider to take matters into her own hands and re-record her first six albums. She is doing this with her new record label, Republic Records. When Swift entered this new deal, she ensured that she would own all of her music. She has already released her first re-recorded album titled “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)”, which is the first out of six to be re-recorded and released. The next album she is re-recording is “Red (Taylor’s Version), which will be released next Friday, November 12th.
