Two Bicycle Crashes, One Day

Kasey Filler, Writer

On Tuesday, May 4th there were two different bicycle accidents. They both involved one bicyclist and a car, and ended in deaths.

The first crash happened early Tuesday morning. The Rock Island County Sheriff’s department responded to the scene just after 12 a.m. The crash involved a 60 year old male bicyclist and a utility vehicle. It is very weird that a 60 year old man would be on a bike ride in the middle of the night. It is weird for anyone to be out on a bike ride at that time of the night. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is happening right now to get more information on the situation. If you want to learn more about this accident click here.

The other crash happened later Tuesday afternoon. At 2:55 p.m. A police officer was dispatched to a disturbance. On his way to the call he hit a 13 year old boy. The boy was on riding along side of the road on his bicycle when he was struck by the cop car. The child was transported to a hospital, then he was later pronounced dead. The officer that hit the boy has been placed on administrative leave. This is normal when there is an ongoing investigation. The Moline police department have said to be releasing the dash cam footage from the accident. If you want to learn more about this accident click here.

It is crazy that two crashes involving one bicyclist and one car each happened on the same day so close to each other. It’s very important to wear your helmet, go riding in the daylight, and be aware of the traffic around you while riding your bike around.
