Election Day Is Fast Approaching

After literal years of lead up, the 2020 Presidential Election is right around the corner. Tuesday will be the final opportunity to cast your vote and determine who will be president for the next four years. The incumbent Republican nominee, Donald Trump, and the Democratic nominee, Joe Biden, are toe-to-toe in the early polls, with Biden having the slight edge. But, as we learned from the previous election, anything can happen.

The big thing that everyone is currently looking to are the battleground states. These are states that each candidate needs to win, and can help determine the outcome of the election. Each state has a certain amount of electors based on that state’s population. Based on how that state votes, electors will choose a candidate. If a candidate gets 270 of the 538 votes, they will win. The big swing states this year are Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Trump won all of these states in 2016, which is a big reason as to why he was able to win the presidency.

The candidates have been heavily campaigning in these states and are very close in the polls there. There are quite a few states who very consistently vote for the same party time and time again, so those states aren’t seeing as much action from the candidates there. It is looking like either Biden or Trump will have to win at least three of these states to reach the 270 electoral votes necessary to win the presidency. Also, many of these swing states have many electoral votes, with Florida holding 29 and Pennsylvania holding 20.

This election has been very different that past elections due to the COVID-19 pandemic and mail-in voting. No matter what the outcome, this will be an election to be remembered for many years in the future. For more information regarding battleground states in the upcoming election visit:
