Movie Review: Her

Jamie Hoxsey, Writer

A couple of months ago I watched Her directed by Spike Jonez, despite seeing it so long ago this movie is still fresh in my mind. Her is a movie set in a not so distant future where Theodore (played by Joaquin Pheonix) purchases a newly developed AI (voiced by Scarlet Johansson) and falls in love with it. Now, I understand that this sounds crazy and weird. That’s what I thought when I started watching it, but this was one of the most beautiful movies I’ve ever watched.

This movie feels like sunshine, if that makes sense. The colors are warm and homely and if I do say so myself this future is very aesthetically pleasing. Her is also a rollercoaster of emotions, your emotions grow for the relationship forming until it all comes crashing down. This is truly one of the most stunning and heart-breaking movies I’ve ever seen. It’s the perfect movie for a rainy day and since we seem to be having a lot of those lately maybe it’s the perfect time to rent this movie and cozy in for a 2 hour long cinematic experience.

This movie is rated R so keep that in mind if you decide to watch it.
