Painting Tips

A popular hobby I’ve picked up and that many others have during this quarantine is painting. By no means am I Bob Ross, however I’ve picked up some good tips and tricks that take your painting from a third grade level to fifth grade level.

Tip #1 : Think Ahead

First things first, if you don’t have a canvas or any other painting supplies you may need I recommend jumping on to Amazon and ordering them right now. I would have an idea or find a picture of what you’d like to paint before ordering to get any specific color or sponges you may need.

Tip #2 : Q-tips

This tip is particularly for painting trees. Q- tips are a game changer. After letting the paint for your branches dry take a Q-tip and dip it in the paint for your leafs and make dots all around the branches. You can also do this with two Q-tips by holding them together and you getting twice as many dots. I personally think putting dots over the paint of your branches make this effect look even better. There are tons of tutorials on Youtube, Pinterest, and even Tik Tok if you need a visual to see this process.

Tip #3 : Use tools in household

If you have shaky hands like me getting straight precise lines is nearly impossible. A couple ways that have helped me is using certain sponges I found. The one I use is a foam sponge and I use the edge to make straight lines. If you don’t have a sponge you could also use the edge of a small butter knife. Another tip is using a toothbrush for stars if you are making a painting of the night sky.

I hope some of these tips were helpful and that you are all staying safe and healthy.
