New Hobbies to Try While Stuck in Quarantine

New Hobbies to Try While Stuck in Quarantine

Riley Filler, Writer

I’m sure you’ve never thought you would have this much extra time on your hands considering most of us normally barley have enough time in the day to do the things we need to get done, let alone the things we want to try for the first time. Well, I highly recommend you attempt to try new things over this long, long break. Listed below are some of the things I’ve tried or am going to try to start while I have the time. While you might not like the first new hobby you try, continue to try to look for other things you may enjoy more! Or if you do like one of these new hobbies, share it with others and teach them about it!

  1. Workout!- This is something many people already do, but right now is the perfect time to begin getting in the routine of working out daily or every other day. Start off with easy workouts or just daily walks to ease yourself into it. Since all gyms are closed as of now, at home workouts are essential for making this hobby successful. Looking up at-home workouts on Pinterest or YouTube is something many people do. You can also find workouts by following workout fanatics on Instagram.
  2. Baking!- Baking is something that takes a lot of time from the time used to prep the food to time baking the food. This is why most people would much rather order take out than make their own homemade meal. While it is very important to support local businessesĀ  by ordering curbside, now is the perfect time to learn how make a home cooked meal. For this hobby, I also recommend looking up ideas from either Pinterest or YouTube. There are millions of different recipes out there for you to try!
  3. Start a YouTube Channel!- This is my personal favorite hobby that I’ve tried over this break. While I have not yet posted anything to my YouTube channel, I have looked and researched into how to film videos and different stuff surrounding starting up a YouTube channel. All you need is your smartphone, various video editing apps such as Videoshop and iMovie, and obviously the YouTube app. It’s free to start up your own channel and quite easy to begin by just following the steps on YouTube. Make videos regarding your favorite things or just VLOG your daily life!

I hope this short list gave you some things to do with the extra time you have after completing your school work during quarantine. Hopefully you find something you want to stick with even after this whole break is over with!
