Coronavirus Update

We have all have heard of the Coronavirus and how dangerous it is and how it has caused a worldwide panic. Even though there is no cure yet 80.9% of the infections are mild and flu-like (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), and 56.6% of the infected as of March 9th recovered from the disease and only 3.5% of the infected have died worldwide(John Hopkins University). In fact, as of March 9th, there are only an average of 56 deaths per day worldwide compared to the 2,216 deaths per day due to pneumonia(Center for Disease Control and Prevention). I do think that this virus is a serious issue, but at the same time I think that some people are overreacting about the virus. There are many ways to prevent and protect yourself from getting the Coronavirus as well. The virus is most commonly spread from person-to-person through droplets from coughing or sneezing. The most common way to prevent the virus is to constantly wash your hands or use hand sanitizer with at least 60-70% alcohol. You should also not touch your face without washing your hands immediately before. It is recommended that you should also frequently clean and disinfect surfaces and door handles and other frequently touched items. Also, as of today, there are five states in the US who have shut down school systems. The five states are Ohio, Maryland, Oregon, New Mexico, and Michigan(USA Today).  You can find more information here from the CDC on the Coronavirus and it’s symptoms.
