Spring Reading

Spring Reading

Emily Houdyshell, writer

Spring Break is nearly upon us, and for some (including me), that means extra reading time. So, if you are looking for a good book to read over break, let me suggest a few that I have enjoyed recently.

Ender’s Game: If you enjoy science fiction in any sense, this is a great book for you. Ender’s Game is a book by Orson Scott Card that takes place when Earth is at war with an alien species, nicknamed ‘the Buggers.’ The story follows a young boy named Ender, a boy many believe is the last hope for survival of the human race.

The Amulet of Samarkand: This book, written by Jonathan Stroud, is a fantasy novel that revolves around wizards, magic, diplomacy, and demons. It is set in a parallel universe in the early 2000s and follows the story of a young magician’s apprentice named Nathaniel and a demon he summons named Bartimaeus as they try to end corruption in the government of the British empire.

The Cruel Prince: The Cruel Prince is another book for anyone who enjoys fantasy. It is a story written by Holly Black that takes place in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Jude is a human who grew up in Faerie with her two sisters after her parents were killed by a member of the court. The story follows her in her attempts to climb the ladder of success and make it in a world that hates her kind.

I hope that this has given you an idea for your next book. And, if you ever want to hear any more fantasy book suggestions, I am always reading and always willing to share!
