The grand finale of the 100th NFL season ends with Super Bowl 54, to be played between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers in Miami, Florida.
The 49ers looked to be unstoppable early on this season, winning their first 8 games, before losing to division rival Seattle. The Niners have not played at this level since they were last in the Super Bowl during the 2012 season. During the past couple of seasons they have been rebuilding, much different from the 80’s and 90’s powerhouse starring Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Steve Young. The addition of defensive lineman Nick Bosa with the second overall pick in the last draft helped give the team some much-needed help on defense. With a fresh face, they were able to collect the number one seed in the NFC after winning only four games last year. The Niners made quick work of both the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers on their way to the team’s 7th Super Bowl appearance.
In the other corner, reaching the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years. Their last appearance was the victory over the Minnesota Vikings during the 1969 season. Patrick Mahomes has done it! Reaching his first Super Bowl appearance at age 24, the reigning MVP is hoping to bring the Lombardi Trophy to Kansas City for just the second time. The past few seasons have not ended well for the Chiefs, losing in the playoffs the past four seasons including the AFC Championship last season against the Patriots. The road wasn’t easy for the Chiefs, as they fell to large deficits against the Texans and Titans, before eventually coming back and winning big in both games.
This will be a great game to watch, pitting one of the best offenses against one of the best defenses. I predict the game will be much higher-scoring than last season, which was the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever.
