The girls cross country team ran in Oregon this past weekend at Sectionals. They qualified by placing third at Regionals. To qualify for state, the top five teams advance and top seven individual runners not on qualifying teams also move on. After a week of training and preparation, the girls were ready to push themselves to the limit and complete their goal of advancing past Sectionals.

The girls race was supposed to start at 10 am, but got pushed back due to difficulties with the timing system. Once everything got figured out, the gun sounded and the race was on. The girls ran a good race, but ultimately fell short of their goal. The team finished in ninth place out of nineteen teams. While the season didn’t end the way the girls wanted, it was still a successful season. The team was consistently at the top of the competition and it showed as they won their second consecutive conference title and a third place finish at Regionals. The Oregon course was one of the tougher ones as there was some spots with lots of mud and team’s average times were overall slower than how they did at Regionals. Placing in the top ten at this sectional is an accomplishment to be proud of.

Looking ahead to the future it looks to be good next year. The team only loses one senior, Brooke Norberg, so majority of the team will be back next season. The expectations will still be set high again for the girls. Overall the entire cross country program will be exciting to watch once again next year.
